This is James. Welcome to my universe.
Every object here is minimalist at first glance — discreet, almost quiet. Yet on closer inspection, a melody of materials and crafts emerges, forming a living composition whose mood seems to shift in tune with our own. That’s what I look for.

I use carbon fibre for every plug, cable switch, and sculpture base.
It’s the toughest material I’ve worked with — light, strong, and incredibly stable. I’ve tested it thoroughly, excessively even, with safety always top of mind.
Once sanded, it loses its sheen and settles into a soft, matte mix of greys. It doesn’t ask for attention — it blends in, quietly doing its job. -
Whether natural or Presidential Red, each cable is made in France from discarded clothes — fabrics too worn and torn to be reused in any other way.

This control device is made with 80% bronze.
I chose this material for how it lives — it ages beautifully: oxidising, darkening, and carrying the quiet marks of touch and time, becoming personal in the process.
Its reassuring weight and cool metallic touch give it presence, softened by the warmth that comes once polished.
Each switch is made here in the studio. -
Coming from aerospace engineering, I’ve always been drawn to how matter behaves — strength, weight, failure.
Traditional concrete is, in many ways, one of the worst materials we could keep using in construction. We can do far better — both in material performance and in its devastating contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. The binder alone accounts for roughly 85% of the 8% total footprint, so that’s where attention should go — not just to mixing in a bit of construction waste.I explore alternatives: my favourite are natural mineral binders, synthetic rocks now emerging from labs, and binders derived from sediments.
It’s less about virtue and more about curiosity — seeing how far these new materials can go, and what forms they make possible.Just imagine what kind of architecture could emerge if we designed buildings to last for millennia.
Form, then function
While solving a brief and addressing specific problems can be exciting, most creations you’ll see here emerged differently. They begin as shapes imagined freely, without any predetermined destination or purpose. Through this intuitive exploration, functionality gradually reveals itself organically. Reflecting nature's own spontaneous approach with successful shapes naturally persisting and adapting over time. Thus, design becomes a dialogue between creativity and discovery, where objects find their purpose through playful experimentation rather than deliberate intention.
Textures & Pigments
Grey may be my favourite universe, but I’ve begun exploring a wider spectrum — working with natural, local pigments to bring new tones to life.
