“CTRL+ALT+DECONSTRUCT”
"CTRL+ALT+DECONSTRUCT" is a collection of unique sculptures exploring the intricate and often contentious relationship between humanity and nature.
Concrete, often seen as the epitome of brutalism, starkly contrasts with the natural world in both its environmental impact and visual harshness. This series challenges the assumption that man-made structures must inherently oppose the natural realm.
This reconciliation is both in form and material. Just as bread can be made in countless ways, so can concrete be reimagined beyond the conventional use of Portland cement, one of the world’s largest pollutants.
The aim of these sculptures is not merely to minimise their own environmental impact but to ignite meaningful dialogues about our interaction with the built environment. This series seeks to shift the material’s perception from one of dominance to one of potential harmony.
For commissions, discussions on materials, shapes (such as serene, mysterious, playful, or surprising), and colors using natural pigments are welcome at hello@jameshaywood.me.
